  • PMHNP stands for Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. We are medical providers with prescription privileges that have specialized in psychiatry. After working multiple years in psychiatric nursing, we go to graduate school to gain specialized training in treating psychiatric conditions. Our scope of practice is identical to a psychiatrist, but PMHNPs are trained to treat as holistic as possible. Just as psychiatrists, we will diagnose you and then develop the most effective treatment plan possible. Our training focuses on using medications to help with your mental health, but we also receive training in psychotherapy. In our sessions we provide brief psychotherapy but it is generally recommended to also have a regular counselor so that we can work together to address all your mental health needs.
